A Kingdom prayer

(used in my sermon on january the 9th on ‘let your kingdom come, your will be done’)

Let your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Let it fill houses, streets and city halls
Schools, gardens, shopping malls
Five lane Highways, steep dark alleys
Stadiums and hospitals.
Discotheque’s and gambling halls
Let it come. Let it come. Let it come.

In the mother who raises her child alone.
No room for a social life.
No finances for a glass of wine.
And the weight of the world just seems too heavy.
All she hears ringing in her ears is

“you are on your own.”

Let your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Let it come.
Let it come.
Let it come.

In the man with the eighty hour workweek.
Where the greed for more grapped his ice-gripped heart.
The Armani suits and BMW’s didn’t quench his thirst in the quest for meaning.

“Is this all there is?”

is the pounding question in the quiet moments in his mansion.

Let your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Let it come.
Let it come.
Let it come.

In a messed up marriage.
Where he slowly lost connection.
to the real.
and the women from the screen seem to be a stronger attraction.
And she… is just thirsting for love and affection.
But the leap of faith to fight for more is simply missing.

Stuck in silent suffering.

Let your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Let it come.
Let it come.
Let it come.
In the dark alleys of the philippines where a young girl is sold and told to serve her greedy masters.
Where the blacklight and dark red flannel scream to her

“rejected”

“rejected”.

The painfull bruises of the brutal beatings force her back to focus.
Meet the daily target.

Let your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Let it come.
Let it come.
Let it come.

In the cancer that seemed to conquer.
A young mother.
Fighting to mold her love for life into a goodbye.
The question keeps floating in the thick air of mourning.

Why?

In the destructive darkness that left a devastated family in despair.

Let your kingdom come.
Your will be done.
Let it fill Houses, streets and city halls
Schools, gardens, shopping malls
Five lane Highways, steep dark alleys
Stadiums and hospitals.
Discotheque’s and gambling halls
Let it come.
Let it come.
Let it come.

May the Kingdom come in you.
May it mold you, shape you, change and transform you.
May it define you.
May it fill you from the inside out.
May it’s light shine upon you in you and through you.

But may it not be about you.
